Kate has always (always!) had a solid sense of who she is. She’s always been a reader and a writer, a dreamer and a builder. Always a thinker and an explorer. She’s been an equestrian, a cook, an artist and a curiosity-seeker. She’s been a student for years, and I suspect she’ll be one again. She’s always been equal parts strong and sensitive. And she’s always colored outside the lines, just a bit. Sometimes more than a bit. She’s my oldest daughter, and she takes my breath away.
Kate left Davis and moved to Vancouver, BC for six years. And then with Brendan, to Eugene, Oregon, and a summer on Orcas Island. Now they are in Chicago, where she’s learning to be a grownup, with all the harshness and happiness that a bold, bright life has to offer.
It seems like she was just born yesterday, and at the same time that she’s been part of us forever. And to think…this is just the beginning. I love you Kate.
