The 2010 T+B Holiday Graham Cracker Extravaganza was an ever-so-festive fleet of pirate ships, complete with Christmas Island. This year we introduced Alex’s friend, Andrea (an exchange student from Denmark) to our family tradition. After about 20 minutes she realized that perfection wasn’t part of the tradition and tossed the candy and icing like a pro. Two ships with firing cannons (one with a pirate flag, one with a Danish flag), a sinking ship, a raft (with an American flag and a few Bush-Cheney jokes), an island with treasure (including some hidden in a cave, because we are nothing if not detailed). And of course, a man overboard. Grandma (she of the ocean) made sure we were accurate in our ocean colorizing, mixing us four different colors of blue.
I may be imagining this, but I do think we had a few more glue gun on finger accidents (“hot glue is hot” became our refrain). Kudos to Alex for the inspiration, Grandpa for the boat bases and the sails, and Grandma for the incredible icing. Next year, Taj Mahal. Merry and Ahoy to all.
