sea mom

I’ve written about my mom before…here and here (and of course, sprinkled throughout). But on Mother’s Day, she deserves a special shout out. One sentence that tells you all you need to know about her. Keep in mind, the words “one sentence” and “my mom” don’t even belong in one sentence. But if I were limited to one, this would be it.

My mother swims in the ocean.

There, conjure that one up. She swims in the ocean, like her mother and father before her. Often with her sister beside her. And never happier than when her children and grandchildren, and nieces and nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews are around her.  That would be, in the water. Preferably in Hawaii.

Happy Mother’s Day to our own Jan Cousteau. Love you.
