Steve is reading John Adams, by David McCullough. He takes his time with a book, savoring it, and talking about each discovery as he turns the pages. It takes months for him to finish. My idea of a good read is a book that provides escape, keeping me from all housework, communication, and sleep until the last page. The best ones take a day to finish.
Steve and Alex share a love of U.S. history (though she might love it even more than he does) and talk about John Adams and cohorts every evening.
Last night Steve found a tidbit he could share with me.
“Did you know that Thomas Jefferson was a shopaholic?”
“Hmmmm, really?”
“All of the booksellers along the Seine knew him.”
“That makes sense.”
“He bought a book every day. Can you imagine that?”
“Well, ummmm, yes I can.”
“He purchased 2,000 books. Crazy!”
“Over how long?”
“About three years. Two thousand books in three years.”
“And your point is?”

There is no such thing as too many books. This is an objective fact.
